THE STORY BEHIND THE APPLE LOGO

When looking at famous logos, you may wonder, where did that come from? Where did they get the idea, inspiration? Why has it changed so much over the years? More than often, logos have a story behind it and today, we will discuss the Apple logo, one of the most famous logos in the world, as we answer a specific question... Why is there a bite out of the apple?
Rob Janoff created the logo way back in 1977, when he was approached by Regis McKenna to be his art director, and was tasked to design the logo for Apple Computer. Since then, a number of stories have emerged about the famous logo. One of the myths is that it is a tribute to Alan Turing, the man who laid the foundations for the modern-day computer. The poor man was unrecognized for his work, being occasionally humiliated for being homosexual and facing jail for indecency so he ate an apple he had poisoned with cyanide. Although it would have been a good reference, Mr. Janoff denied it a couple of years ago, along with other stories that are religion-related. According to one of them, the apple represents knowledge and the falling fruit that led Isaac Newton to discover the gravity concept. Another possibility?

So what is it, you may ask? Mr, Janoff answered the question himself during an interview in 2009 : the reason for the bite is that it's there for scale, so that a small Apple logo still looks like an apple, and not a cherry! As of why it's an apple? It results in Steve Jobs working in an orchard when he was a boy and decided to name it after his favorite brand of apple, McIntosh. But could there be a hidden story behind the logo? We will never know!
