Why Apple is looking to Evolve its voice

Here's why Apple is looking to "evolve" its voice-based assistant Siri

At a time when voice-based digital assistants like Amazon’s Alexa and Google’s Assistant are getting better, perhaps there is a sense of staleness and stagnation that may have crept in with Apple’s Siri. Perhaps that’s why the Cupertino-based tech giant is looking to “evolve” its voice-based assisatant if a job listing on LinkedIn is to go by.

According to a listing posted on the networking site for professionals, Apple is looking for an editorial manager for Siri. The job listing states that Apple is seeking someone who can “evolve Siri as a distinct, recognizable character”. The listing further mentions, “ In this role, you will lead a team of writers and editors to deliver polished and consistent dialog for Siri, and you will collaborate with international writers, designers, engineering, and Apple marketing staff to help Siri be more effective and delightful.”

This is not the first time that Apple has been looking to give Siri a shot in the arm. Earlier this year in March it was revealed that Apple was looking to hire as many 142 new members for its Siri team. That number, according to CultofMac, has now risen up to 194 people. And this latest posting is another indication that the company is determined to get more out of Siri. Siri for the uninitiated powers the iPhone, MacBooks, iPad and even the HomePod. Perhaps this latest push is being made keeping in mind Apple’s smart speaker HomePod.

The HomePod launched earlier this year got off to a tumultuous start as initial sales weren’t as great as expected. However, there have been signs that the HomePod has picked up and is gaining traction in the market. Siri remains the key for HomePod and perhaps that’s why the focus on “evolving it”. Let’s wait and watch how and when do we get to see Siri in a better avatar that can effectively take on competition.
